polycystic ovary syndrome

polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a disorder that affects women in their reproductive years. Its symptoms include irregular, infrequent, or prolonged menstrual periods, weight gain, male pattern hair growth.

This article is my personal story, my lifestyle changes, and my results.

My period started a bit late when I was almost 16, unlike my friends and sisters that got theirs early.

From the time my period started, it was always irregular. It was difficult for me to track my cycle. I didn’t know when it will start or end.

On my first visit to the doctor, I was diagnosed with hormonal imbalance. I was on my period for a little over 2weeks, and the gynecologist prescribed tablets to help me stop the bleeding.

After my first visit, it became a routine always to visit the gynecologist whenever I had my period.

I still couldn’t figure out why my hormones won’t balance 🤷. The mood swings and pain that came with the periods were devastating.

On another visit to a different hospital, the gynecologist requested more tests.

Good news, the test results came out, and my hormones were balanced but ……………..

It turns out I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). I didn’t know what PCOS was, but I still celebrated my wins on the hormonal imbalance.

Now I have another enemy to conquer. So I switched from researching and praying about hormonal imbalance to studying and praying about polycystic ovary syndrome.

I got tired of irregular periods. One time I bled heavily for over three months. I was tired of having to stay longer in the shower or running to the bathroom to change my sanitary pad every 30 minutes. I was fed up!

What did I do next?

I decided to make a 360 degrees lifestyle change.

The health risks associated with polycystic ovary syndrome, like diabetes 2, stress levels, fatigue; It was important to make the changes early.

Lifestyle changes I made for polycystic ovary syndrome

  1. Food

I stopped taking processed and packaged foods. Not cutting down, I stopped completely.

Things I eat now

  • Fresh foods like fruits and vegetables.
  • I eat a complete balanced diet with protein, carbohydrates, vitamins

my mantra is, “If it is not a plant, then it is not food, except for seafood :).”

  • Low carbs.
  • low sugar.
  • More vegetables and salads
  • No caffine and alcohol

2. yoga and exercise

3. Rest

I’m a workaholic, finding time to put the stress of the day behind me and rest.

Lack of sleep negatively affects hormones.

Results

I have noticed improvements in my body over time.

My periods don’t come with a painful partner like before.

I will share more of my updates.
